TOP 10 Most Expensive Cars

Car 1: Pagani Zonda C12 F $667,321

Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the fifth-fastest car in the world. But speed is not the only criterion for these most expensive vehicles. There is certainly something to be said for rarity and exclusivity. Zonda has that in spades, as only about 10 are produced each year and just over 100 exist on the planet. It can be expected to deliver a top speed of 215 mph and to reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. It debuted in 1999 and production continues through today, with both two-seat coupe and convertible versions available

Car 2: Ferrari Enzo $670,000

Sometimes naming a car after a person works and sometimes it does not. (Remember, there WAS a real person named Edsel Ford.) The vehicle named after Enzo Ferrari is an example of a wildly successful namesake. This is probably the best known supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph, and it reaches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 Enzos were produced, and they currently go for over $1 million at auctions. Apparently, the laws of new car depreciation reverse somewhere around the half million dollar mark. The 400th Ferrari Enzo was auctioned for $1,274,229 by Sotheby's Maranello Auction on June 28, 2005, to benefit survivors of the 2004 tsunami.

Car 3: McLaren F1 $970,000

In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car in the world. For perspective on this, when 1994 began O.J. Simpson was most famous for being a football star and actor. Also in 1994... the NAFTA treaty took effect, Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty by reason of insanity and the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Yes, that was quite a while ago, huh? Our point is that even 15 years later the McLaren F1 is still up there with the very elite superstar supercars. It has a top speed of 240 mph and reaches 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. But as with many cars on this list, wanting an F1 and being able to afford one are not enough. Only 106 cars were manufactured, just 64 of which were the standard street version.

Car 4: Lamborghini Reventon $1.6 Million

The Lamborghini Reventon is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It has the distinction of being the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car ever built. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a top speed of 211 mph. Only 20 of this model were ever built, and each Reventon is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the driver's and passenger's seats

Car 5: Bugatti Veyron $1.7 Million

Would you believe that the most expensive car in the world was developed by Volkswagen? The Bugatti Veyron is a mid-engine grand tourer developed by Volkswagen and produced by the Volkswagen-brand Bugatti Automobiles SAS at their headquarters in Chateau St. Jean in Molsheim (Alsace, France). This is by far the most expensive street-legal car available on the market today. Still, you would probably enjoy owning a Bugatti Veyron, you think?

Car 6: Porsche Carrera GT $440,000

Officially, you can get this amazing vehicle in your choice of five colors... red, yellow, black, silver and gray (these colors actually have proper names, like 'Guards Red' and 'Basalt Black,' which only seems right in a high-class car like the Carrera GT). Custom colors are available from the factory, but we are assuming that you would have to name those yourself, maybe even AFTER yourself... say, Bob Black or Roseanne Red.

Car 7: Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Roadster $495,000

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is an Anglo-German car jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. When two countries, along with two legendary manufacturers, combine on an automobile, it's easy to imagine that automobile is going to be of world-class quality... and of world-class expense. This particular model boasts the fastest automatic transmission in the world, with a top speed of 206 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Car 8: Koenigsegg CCX $545,568

Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Anita Ekberg and Ann-Margret were born in Sweden, but the newest beauty from that country is the Koenigsegg CCX. As the relative new kid on the block -- it was introduced in February 2006 -- the CCX is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the fourth fastest, with a top speed of 245 mph, and Koenigsegg is determined to be tops one day. How close are they? In 2007, the CCX was the fastest car to complete a lap of British televisions Top Gear circuit, in a time of 1:17.6 on the power lap, until it was beaten by the Ascari A10, which clocked in at 1:17.3.

Car 9: Saleen S7 Twin Turbo $555,000

The American auto industry may not be at the very peak of its powers right now, but there are some shining lights out there to keep hopes alive. The Saleen S7 Twin Turbo was the first true American production-certified supercar, This limited-edition, hand-built, high-performance vehicle is ranked the third-fastest car in the world. With a top speed of 248 mph, it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. When it went on sale in 2002, the S7 was the only street-legal car in the United States, with more than 500 horsepower and 500 pounds-feet of torque.

Car 10: SSC Ultimate Aero $654,400

The sixth-most expensive car is actually the fastest street-legal car in the world, with a top speed of 257 mph and an acceleration rate of 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. And what a bargain! You can pick up an SSC Ultimate Aero for just about half what you would pay for the top car on this list, and then go out and beat that car in a race. (We will admit that bargain is a relative term in the context of this sort of list.) One slight catch, though: It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced. And, as if to make you want what you can not have even more, the newest Ultimate Aero has 15 percent more horsepower and is theoretically capable of reaching 287 mph, with a sixth-gear rated top speed of 287.102 mph

Do you want some? =D
